Editorial Policy
Last updated: October 9, 2026
The Pennyfy publishes general education about personal finance for readers in the United Kingdom and the United States. This page explains how we decide what to publish, how we check it and what we will not do.
Who writes our articles
The Pennyfy is an independent publication. Articles are published under the pen name Ethan Carter, which is the byline used by the site editor. Ethan Carter is not a real person with financial qualifications, and nothing on this site should be read as the opinion of a regulated financial adviser.
What we publish
We cover budgeting, saving, credit, debt, everyday banking and introductory investing. Where rules differ between the UK and the US, we say which country a statement applies to. We do not tell readers to buy, sell or hold a specific investment, and we do not give personal recommendations.
How we check facts
- Figures, laws, tax rules, interest rates and account limits are checked against the official source where one exists. In the UK that means GOV.UK, HMRC, the Financial Conduct Authority, MoneyHelper, the Bank of England and the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. In the US that means the IRS, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Federal Reserve, the SEC, the FDIC and Investor.gov.
- Where a number comes from a study, survey or company, we name the source and link to it where we can.
- If we cannot verify a figure, we leave it out rather than estimate it.
- Worked examples are labelled as examples. We do not present invented numbers as real results, and we do not describe personal experiences that did not happen.
Use of AI tools
We use AI tools to help with research, outlining, drafting and image creation. Articles are checked against official sources and edited before publishing, and AI-generated images are labelled as such. AI assistance does not change our rule that every factual claim must be supportable by a source.
Independence and money
Our editorial choices are not influenced by advertisers or affiliates. If we show advertising or use affiliate links in the future, we will say so clearly on our Disclaimer page and next to the links.
Updates and corrections
We review articles when rules, rates or limits change and show the date of the latest update on each page. See our Corrections Policy for how we handle mistakes.
